Welcome to Project 2, In this project I talk about where I want to go in life after completing my Level 3 Diploma. I also discuss what job roles that myself or other designers  could potentially go into.

Academic Choices

My Path in Higher Education for Creative Media, as I embark on my journey in higher education within the creative media industry, I'm fuelled by the prospect of delving deep into my passions and refining my craft. Here's a glimpse into the pros and cons I consider along this path:

Pros:

1. Immersive Learning: In my research about going into higher education they say their education offers courses that promise to hone my skills in graphic design, film production, and digital storytelling, allowing me to explore my creativity in depth.

2. Community and Collaboration: The vibe of university will encourage me to collaborate with like-minded peers, this  provides opportunities to share ideas, collaborate on projects, and grow together creatively.

3. Mentorship and Guidance:

Talking with experienced mentors and industry professionals can show invaluable guidance as I make my way through the complexities of the creative media landscape, helping me shape my career path.

4. Portfolio Development:

Thanks to higher education offering coursework, internships, and real-world projects give me the chance to build a strong portfolio that showcases my abilities and sets me apart in a competitive job market.

5. Personal Growth:

Beyond technical skills, higher education offers a platform for personal growth, I personally really like when a task challenges me to think critically, push boundaries, and embrace failure as part of the journey towards success.

Cons:

1. Financial Considerations:

The financial stress of tuition fees and living expenses weighs heavily, requiring careful planning and consideration of alternative funding options. This doesn't seem like too much of a problem as I've been taught from a young age about money management

2. Time Commitment:

Balancing academic responsibilities with personal commitments demands discipline and time management skills, as coursework, projects, and internships. If they all come to my mind at once I'm afraid I'll lose track of what's important attention.

3. Uncertainty in a Competitive Landscape:

While education equips me with the skills needed to get into a job, success is not guaranteed in the fiercely competitive creative media industry, requiring me to be resilient and to have strategic career planning.

4.Technological Evolution:

Rapid technological advancements mean skills can quickly become obsolete (Like ai being able to recreate images out of a simple prompt), which increases the  continuous learning to stay relevant in the ever-changing industry.

5. Navigating the Job Market:

Transitioning to the workforce poses many challenges but is the final step to completing my dream, but it requires me to have  strategic networking and career development to secure employment in a competitive job market.

Personal Interests:

I'm drawn to courses focusing on digital media production, motion graphics, and immersive storytelling, as well as apprenticeships offering experience under industry professionals' guidance so I can get the feel for the atmosphere and see if it best suites me. These opportunities go really well with my passion for creativity and innovation, guiding the way for a fulfilling career in the dynamic world of creative media.

Working Practices

I am excited about the possibility of an apprenticeship or  a hands on job in the creative media industry, but I am also cautious about it as I approach my career goals. Motivated by my intense love for design, digital innovation, and visual storytelling, this journey is about much more than just finding a job. It's an incredible chance for both professional and personal growth.

Purpose of the Role

  • To plan, source and implement a dynamic whole-school social media presence across key platforms.

  • To generate video content and a dynamic newsfeed.

  • To proactively update, improve and manage the school’s new website.

  • To assist with multiple marketing projects, including the creation of high-quality marketing materials, videos and merchandise.

  • To write content and award submissions.

I like the idea of being the master behind a well made social media page  but I don't think I could move local to Kent or take the journey there everyday. If it was a job where I could stay at home and still work on the social media page I'd be prepared for the job.

However, the pay is slightly under the average pay in the UK but if I can't find another Job opening with slightly over average pay I would choose this job as a fall back.

If that section of creative media doesn't work I luckily have a strong commitment to most of the other aspects it has.

I could also be a producer in the creative job industry so I can turn my ideas into reality like creating video games, podcasts, music recordings, live events or films.

In this particular role I am required to have these core skills:

  • Leadership – be able to set the tone of the production, manage all departments, motivate and communicate well with everyone, create a good working atmosphere

  • Organisation – be on top of the whole project, prepare schedules and a production budget, negotiate salaries, make room for creativity within this structure

  • Storytelling – know how to craft narrative and use this in marketing and team building as well as in the production

  • Negotiation – be able to cultivate relationships, raise funds, get the best deal on products and services, negotiate with financial backers to get funding for projects, cultivate good relationships

  • Sector-specific knowledge – understand the production processes of the genre or sector in which you are working

  • Freelancing – be able to keep your books, manage your finances and stay alert to new business opportunities.

Working as a producer in this specific job industry would fit well on a resume if I were to go on my own freelancing journey and in that it could also be useful to experiment with my ideas that would be rejected  to test how successful the idea could have been

Action Plan

I plan to go into a career in digital media (specifically video editing) after I graduate from college. I believe that this field will ultimately pay well and allow me to continue learning about what I love to do. Even if it doesn't pay off I have other job prospects in mind that I can work around with Creative Media, but it will feel too much like school but I know it will be worth it in the end.

In a short while, I would like to work at my favourite employment. My long-term objectives are to find a profession that I truly enjoy and adore working at. However, working as a freelancer would be my dream since it would allow me to work how I want to and avoid having to work for someone else and receive less money for the same amount of work. As a freelancer if my client doesn't like what I've created for them they decide to not pay but in my eyes I see it as I had fun in doing what I enjoy.
